Sub-Zero Wine Cooler Repair in Del Mar
Two degrees of drift is a fault on wine storage rather than a tolerance, and in most Del Mar houses the bottles are worth considerably more than the cabinet holding them. Take the reading at bottle level before you believe the display, because the sensor reports from where the air moves and the racks can sit several degrees away from it. A dual-zone cabinet with one steady zone and one climbing has already proven its compressor; what has failed is the fan, the damper or the evaporator serving the zone that drifted. Fog on the inside of the glass is a different fault altogether: the door seal, or the heater built into the pane.
What this covers in Del Mar
Dual-zone columns, undercounter wine cabinets and the built-in wine storage that sits in a Del Mar bar run or butler's pantry. Temperature drift, humidity, condensation on the glass, control panel faults, noisy fans, and the door seals that turn out to be behind most of it.
- Zone-by-zone temperature taken at the racks, not off the panel
- Evaporator fan, damper and thermistor tested per zone
- Glass door seals and pane heaters, the usual cause of interior fogging
- Condenser cleaning, which on a coastal cabinet is not optional
- Control board and display diagnosis
- Shelf rail and hinge adjustment on heavy glass doors
A glass-front cabinet on this coast fights a problem that inland ones do not. It is holding a cool, humid interior while humid outside air presses against the same pane, so the moment the pane heater weakens or the seal stops pulling, you get fog on the inside of the door and eventually water running down to the bottom rail and into the frame. Owners almost always read that as a cooling failure. It is not. The refrigeration is working exactly as intended, and the glass has simply dropped below dew point because the part whose job was to keep it above dew point has stopped doing it.

Reviews
Whirring noise behind the grille that turned into a grind. Fan bearing, salt in the shaft apparently. Fast, tidy, explained what he was doing and cleaned the coil while he had it open.

The beverage center out on the deck stopped holding anything past mid afternoon. Two other places had told me to replace it. He showed me the fins gone chalky white on one end from the ocean air, swapped the fan motor and cleaned it up, and it is holding again.

Wolf range burner clicked and clicked and would not light after a foggy stretch. I had convinced myself it was the range. It was a damp electrode and a blocked port, cleaned and reseated while I stood there. Took him twenty minutes.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What payment methods do you take?
Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, debit cards, and personal checks. The repair is priced once the fault is known, as a single figure covering parts and labor, agreed by you before anything is fitted, so nothing is added afterward. If a part has to be ordered and fitted on a second visit, the whole job is quoted up front.
Do you have to pull the refrigerator out of the cabinetry to work on it?
No. Sub-Zero designed this equipment to be serviced where it stands, which on a Del Mar built-in is the whole point: condenser and fan through the lower grille, evaporator through a panel inside the compartment, control board from the front. Dragging a fitted unit out risks your flooring, a heavy custom panel and a stone overhang for no diagnostic gain. The exceptions are rare.
